They escaped as Sinestro and his Lanterns attacked Rann to find the location of Sardath's doomsday weapon. Jordan was revealed to be alive, having released his ring and been taken prisoner after Sinestro sabotaged the Zeta-Beam experiment. Retracing the trajectories of the imposter ships, the team discovered a base hidden inside an asteroid, where they battled the Yellow Lanterns before being captured by their leader Sinestro. Shayera and Strange reviewed footage from past attacks and discovered that a third party has been impersonating both Rannian and Thanagarian ships to further the war. Rannian Captain Kantus revealed that Rannian scientist Sardath has converted the Zeta-Beam project into a doomsday weapon to destroy Thanagar. Strange denied that Rann attacked Oa and led them to Rannian High Command, engaged in a battle with Thanagarian forces. The team traveled to Rann, where they encountered Rannian hero Adam Strange, presumed deceased but teleported at random by Zeta-Beams' attraction to him. Shayera accused Rann of sabotaging the experiment and attacking Oa, but Stewart and Green Arrow insisted they should investigate further. The experiment went haywire, transporting Thanagar into Rann's atmosphere, restarting the war, and apparently killing Jordan. Shayera explained that the Thanagarian-Rannian war had briefly ended, with Jordan overseeing a joint project using Zeta-Beam technology to benefit both planets. They soon encountered Thanagarian warrior Shayera Hol, who indicated security footage showing a Rannian ship docking at Oa just before the attack. With the former two unavailable, Green Arrow reluctantly joined Stewart on travelling to Oa, where they learned that the Green Lantern Corps were killed in battle the disturbing scenario reminded Stewart of his traumatic experience in the war. Seeking help to learn how to control the Ring's power, Stewart flew to the Justice League Watchtower, where he encountered Martian Manhunter, Vixen, and Green Arrow. A discharged spiner and marine soldier, John Stewart was chosen to become a new member of the Green Lantern Corps after an encounter with dying Guardian of the Universe Ganthet, and receiving a Power Ring which once belonged to Hal Jordan. ![]()
